LiFePO4 Cell Selection Guide for Pack Assembly

This guide helps B2B buyers and pack builders choose prismatic LiFePO4 cells for 4S / 8S / 16S assemblies. It is a purchasing decision aid, not a datasheet. Exact shipment specs are confirmed in writing with the quotation.

1. Start from the pack voltage, not the brand

Pack target Series Nominal pack voltage Typical cell class on BattCrate
12.8 V 4S 12.8 V 105 Ah slim (e.g. LF105-class) or 280/314 Ah large-format
25.6 V 8S 25.6 V 280/314 Ah large-format
51.2 V 16S 51.2 V 280/314 Ah large-format

Pick series count first; then capacity; then brand/batch. Do not assume 280 Ah and 314 Ah cells from different makers are drop-in interchangeable — outline tolerances differ.

2. Grade A and matching

  • Grade A on our listings means supply coordinated to the maker’s Grade A definition; grade documents are confirmed with the quotation. Capacity/IR matching is confirmed per quotation — not a stock guarantee.
  • For multi-cell packs, ask for matched groups (capacity and internal resistance windows) in the RFQ. Unmatched cells raise balance and early-fade risk.

3. 280 Ah vs 314 Ah

Topic 280 Ah class 314 Ah class
Energy per cell (3.2 V) ~896 Wh ~1,005 Wh
Footprint class Common 71.7 mm thickness class Same thickness class, brand-specific outline
When to prefer Existing 280 designs, fixtures, busbars Higher energy in similar volume
Watch-outs Confirm terminal type (e.g. M6) and height incl. terminal Do not assume drop-in vs EVE MB31 vs CALB L173F314A

BattCrate 280-class examples: BC-CELL-001 EVE LF280K, BC-CELL-004 CATL CB310, BC-CELL-005 Hithium LFP71173207. 314-class examples: BC-CELL-002 EVE MB31, BC-CELL-006 CALB L173F314A.

4. Cycle-life numbers are not comparable raw

Makers publish cycle life under different end-of-life criteria (e.g. 70% SOH vs 80% capacity) and clamp/temperature conditions. Use the figure with its test condition when comparing. We do not adopt marketing “10,000 cycles” claims that lack the shallow-DoD context.

5. RFQ checklist (send with your enquiry)

  1. Series/parallel (e.g. 16S1P) and target energy
  2. Preferred cell model codes (or “280-class / 314-class”)
  3. Matching requirement (capacity / IR window)
  4. Terminal / busbar / compression fixture constraints
  5. Quantity and destination port
